The Tatami Accommodation Lodge

A Tatami guest house is a new concept in the hospitality industry. Luxurious accommodation lodges offering guests an individual and exquisite hotel or resort experience.

For the hotel or resort operator it brings a significant business opportunity, the chance to create a unique destination experience for a reasonable cost within a short lead time and with the minimum disturbance to the core business.

With each lodge an operator can quickly and conveniently and easily create more room space. Constructed at a fraction of the cost and time scales of a convention building or extension.

We offer stunning designs to suit different resort styles.

Each Tatami has been designed to have a contemporary look and move away from the traditional ‘barn’ or ‘cabin’ style lodge and yet fit in with its natural surroundings and the local vernacular. The lodge is constructed from natural oak and cedar selected to complement the environment and last for years.

The design principle is based upon the measurement of the ‘tatami’ (sleeping) mat used in formal Japanese timber architecture. This ‘aesthetic’ square provides the lodge with a voluminous interior yet has reduced its visual proportion by extending the roof to form a vaulted porch and veranda.

The measurement is repeatedly shown throughout the building by the use of detailed oak timbers that break across the vertical and horizontal planes. Creating a delightful and enchanting look that opens into an unexpected spacious and peaceful room when your guests enter inside.

In order to introduce a contemporary look, and create an airy and light interior, the design makes use of modern constructional techniques and materials that allowed the interior dimensions to be asymmetric from the exterior.

The building includes full height windows forming a vast open corner with slim panels to allow light to flood in to the living area, whilst echoing the vertical elements of the framework. The materials used are considered for their natural quality and to blend into the environment. The main structural timbers, window frames, detail boarding and door are made from Oak.

Chosen for its straightness and length of grain it contrasts with the warmth of the Canadian Cedar weather board used to clad the exterior. Oak with its hardier knotty grain is used for the decking and will stand against all weathers. The roof is covered with naturally water repellent

cedar shingle, which in time, will patinate with the weather and blend into the surroundings.

The Tatami Lodge looks stunning in any environment.
